Pickleball in Paradise
In partnership with the Caribbean Pickleball Federation, Cliff Villa has built the first professional Pickleball court on the island.
Pickleball Rules
Serve: The serve must be made underhand, and the server must keep one foot behind the back boundary line (baseline) during the serve. The ball must be served diagonally across the net to the opponent's service court.
Double Bounce Rule: After the serve, each team must allow the ball to bounce once on their side before they can start volleys (hitting the ball before it bounces). After the initial bounce, players can volley the ball in the air.
Non-Volley Zone (Kitchen - light blue area): Players cannot volley the ball while standing within the non-volley zone, which extends 7 feet from the net on each side. However, they can enter the non-volley zone to play a ball that has bounced.
Faults: Common faults include not clearing the net on the serve, stepping into the non-volley zone during a volley, volleying before the ball has bounced, and hitting the ball out of bounds.
Serve Rotation: In doubles, both players on a team have the opportunity to serve, and the server must switch sides after winning a point.
Fault Serve: If the server faults, the opposing team gains the serve, but the serving team retains their score.
Let Serve: If the served ball touches the net and lands in the proper service court, it's called a "let," and the server gets another opportunity to serve.
Scoring: Games are played to 11 points, and a team must win by two points. Only the serving team can score points, and they will continue to do so until they commit a fault.
