The Zero-Footprint Project

Luxury with Zero Guilt

The villa is carbon-neutral. Save more than 2500 kg of CO2 equivalent emissions per week. You will not know it, but you can quietly enjoy it.

  1. Rain water is collected using the flat roof and drainage pipes into a large cistern (17,843 Gallons - 67.55 m3) under the house and used for the pool (40,200 Gallons - 152 m3) and the garden.

  2. The garden is watered using drip irrigation on a timer.

  3. All house water is pumped up from the sea and distilled using an award-winning reverse osmosis process (see below)

  4. All hot water is heated using tankless solar panels on the roof.

Desalination is the obvious solution for a desert island. At the villa, we are able to generate high-quality fresh water, using unlimited resources. We are partnered with the award-winning Elemental Water Makers in the Netherlands. They have designed our water system based on globally tested technology.

Solar & Wind Hybrid

  1. All energy is generated by a high-efficiency solar tiles and wind turbines provided by Lure Energy

  2. The villa has a small backup lithium battery kit and a generator. However, because the wind on the tip of Curaçao blows 24/7, there is little need for powerful batteries.

  3. All lights in the villa are LED.

The villa has smart utilities to reduce energy consumption.

If you knock on the glass of the refrigerator, the light will turn on so you can see the content of the inner door (Door-in-door technology) If you select to open the glass door you can quickly grab beers and other easily accessible products without opening the large door. This reduces energy consumption by 40%.

We have UV-treated fresh water and ice in both fridges as well as a Soda Stream unit to encourage the reduction of plastic purchases.
